To make your pet’s anesthetic procedure as safe as possible we ask that you follow a few guidelines.
The night before the procedure
Please feed your pet a small meal at 9:00 pm the night before the procedure. Do not give food past 9:30 pm. Water should never be restricted. If your pet was prescribed medications for nausea (Cerenia) please administer this medication the night before the procedure.
The morning of the procedure
All medications that are typically given should be administered as usual, except insulin. Diabetics should be given half the typical dose of insulin. Be sure to inform our staff what medications have been administered when admitting your pet to the hospital. On the morning of the procedure, your pet should have free-choice water. Do not feed your pet the morning of the procedure. If your pet was prescribed a medication for anxiety, please administer this medication 2 (two) hours before hospital admission. (You may wrap this with a small piece of cheese if needed).
Admission to the hospital
We start anesthetic procedure early. Please arrive at the hospital at 8:00 am unless advised otherwise. The admission process takes 10-15 minutes.
